Mid-Term Rentals & Travel Tips for New Orleans Visitors

Last updated: July 2025

Why New Orleans Is the Perfect City for Your Next Stay — Whether You’re Working or Wandering

New Orleans isn’t just a vacation destination — it’s a place that invites you to stay awhile. Whether you’re a digital nomad, a remote worker, or someone in the film industry, this city is made for people looking to soak up culture, creativity, and a little bit of everyday magic. At stay-neworleans.com, we host guests from around the world who fall in love with the city’s rhythm, warmth, and walkability.

If you’re working remotely, New Orleans is surprisingly ideal. Many neighborhoods, like the Irish Channel and Lower Garden District, are extremely walkable — you can grab coffee, lunch, or catch some live music all within a few blocks. We live here for half of the year, and even though we have a car, we end up walking nearly everywhere. The slower pace and friendly neighbors make errands feel like part of the adventure. Our rentals come with fast Wi-Fi, dedicated workspaces, and pet-friendly features — because we know flexibility is key when you’re living and working in a new place.

What to Pack: New Orleans by Season

New Orleans weather is as dynamic as the city itself — here’s what we suggest packing based on the time of year:

  • Winter (Dec–Feb): Light jackets, layers, and something sparkly for Carnival events. It can get chilly, especially in the evenings.

  • Spring (Mar–May): Comfortable walking shoes, breathable clothes, sunglasses, and rain gear. This is festival season — you’ll want to dress for everything from parades to patios.

  • Summer (Jun–Aug): Pack light, breezy clothes, a hat, sunscreen, and sandals. It’s hot and humid, but also a great time to enjoy museums, shady courtyards, and frozen cocktails.

  • Fall (Sep–Nov): Layers again — warm days, cooler nights. October especially is one of our favorite times to be here.

Festivals You Won’t Want to Miss

No matter when you come, there’s a reason to celebrate. Some of the city’s biggest events include:

  • Mardi Gras (begins January 6, ends the day before Ash Wednesday): Costumes, parades, beads — the city’s most iconic celebration that stretches over several weeks of Carnival season.

  • French Quarter Fest (April): A free, local-loved music festival with over 20 stages and amazing food.

  • Jazz Fest (April–May): A mix of international headliners and local legends — more than just jazz!

  • Essence Festival (July): A celebration of Black culture and music held over Fourth of July weekend.

  • Southern Decadence (September): A vibrant LGBTQ+ celebration.

  • Halloween in NOLA: October rivals Mardi Gras with its costumes, haunted tours, and voodoo vibes.

You’ll also find year-round happenings like second lines, night markets, porch concerts, and impromptu brass bands that turn a regular Tuesday into a mini parade.

Life Moves Differently Here

New Orleans is a city made for lingering. Instead of rushing from one must-see to the next, you get to slow down and let the culture unfold around you. We often run into friends on walks, find new restaurants tucked into quiet corners, and discover hidden gems in unexpected places. Every neighborhood has its own personality, history, and traditions. The Irish Channel, where our rentals are located, is one of our favorites — full of historic homes, leafy streets, and just steps from the energy of Magazine Street.
